Gettin’ Fit for Summer Guide #4: Exercising in Style

Alright, when it comes to working out the last quality we want to expose about ourselves is that we are unkempt. I mean, seriously, working out is the prime time for post-workout flirting (fact: did you know that men are most attracted to girls after they workout not only because of flowing endorphins, but because of their glowing skin and sweat?). Guys can be attracted to your face and personality, but once they scroll down the bod they could be a bit appalled if you’re sporting some shorts with your high school logo or your ex’s athletic pants. Not just for the boys satisfaction, but for you to maintain high self-esteem and confidence while working out and prancing ‘round town with that firm ‘boot-ay’ from the Gettin’ Fit for Summer Guide routine, I’m here to show you my staples that I LOVE to sweat in! My favorite workout clothes for her AND him from both Lulu Lemon and Nike:

Stylish outfit? Check. Appropriate shoes for you? Paragon Sports. This is the best store in New York to buy athletic shoes, and other important athletic essentials (it has the same affect as  Walgreens…you walk into this store with the intension of purchasing one product, and you walk out with five times as much…but you need it ALL, right?). Located conveniently in Union Square (right near the subway!), this store has an entire department dedicated to running / walking shoes on their bottom floor.

Best part? There’s even a treadmill down there that has a video camera attached to it to detect exactly how your foot hits the pavement, so the educated reps can customize and cater the correct shoe for your foot. Before purchasing my running shoes from them, I could honestly barely run more than 3 miles on the treadmill without my feet giving out. I obviously thought that running was just not for this girl. Little did I know that I was wearing the incorrect shoes for my feet, and that I needed less arch support in them while I run. Post-purchasing the shoes, I can now run 5 miles like it’s nothing. Who knew? Thank you Paragon Sports!

People have gone bananas over these Emi-Jay hair bands. Created by two teens in LA, Emi-Jay has taken the hair accessory market by storm, and they even donate proceeds towards the Locks of Love charity.

These hair ties make the perfect accessory to keep your hair out of your face. Look on their website for a retail store near you or buy them online!   Now those are my favorite essentials to workout in, but I thought it would be ultra important to include what the hot athletic products are on the street right now:

Equinox:

Yosemite Graphic V-Neck, $65

The designer, James Perse, has created athletic gear called James Perse Yosemite, which is now being sold in their stores, and you do not have to be a member to walk in there and purchase – fashion has been officially brought to the treadmill! The shirts are incredibly soft and comfortable not only to workout in, but to lounge in as well!

SoulCycle:

Hip, comfortable, and bringing the bright color trend of Spring to the gym, SoulCycle has collaborated with Lulu Lemon and Nike clothing, and is now selling a wide range of Capri pants, shirts, and fabulous zip-up jackets that make you look great in the gym and to the streets.

Lucy Activewear:

Lucy Criss Cross Tank II, $48

Similar to the products sold at Lulu Lemon, Lucy started in Portland, Oregon, and offers flattering and stylish athletic gear to women. Trust me, you have to look at this website asap if there isn’t a store located near you…the wide range of clothing that they sell are so fashionable and gym-ready…Lucy Criss Cross Tank II anyone? I’m game.

So you have a fabulous outfit to feel confident, flirt, and workout in at the gym, but what about the bag to sport? You have to find the bag that fits your personality, style, and athletic routine. I love to bring a change of clothes, cycling cleats, etc. with me to workout, so I need a portable bag full of pockets that blends my fashionista and “Sporty-Spice” look. I looked online, stalked the Puma and Adidas by Stella McCartney websites, and went to various retail stores to find the bag for me. Finally, I found the perfect fit. It’s called the Bon Voyage Duffel by Lulu Lemon. They carried it last season, but made a few changes and designs, and brought it back to the floor not only in black but in this cool gray design.

Bon Voyage Duffel, $108

I decided on the black color, and let me tell you this bag is “thebomb.com” for the gym and traveling.

Workout Bag essentials besides throwing in deodorant and a second set of clothes to change into?: -If you go to SoulCycle: -Cycling shoes (you don’t have to pay the extra money to borrow theirs!), a water bottle, face wash / moisturizer, concealer, bronzer, and lipgloss (just in case there is someone cute in the class – you need to primp up post-cycling…pucker up, buttercup!) -If you go to Bikram Yoga: -Yoga mat, 2 towels (one for class and one for the shower after class), a liter water bottle, flip-flops (if you don’t want to go in their showers barefoot…) -If you go to the good ‘ole gym: -Business cards (who knows who you will meet pumping iron!), earphones, water bottle, a gym locker lock, face wash / moisturizer if you plan on taking a dip post-workout

I hope my tips help your next workout session to be stress-free, comfortable, and stylish!
