When I first met Simone Nemirovsky way back when during an internship at Harper’s Bazaar magazine, I immediately knew this girl would not only be a lifelong friend, but was someone who would show her talents to the world in more than one way. And I have to admit, even as a freshman in college, my instincts were correct! Not only has this girl radiated through the fashion industry to the restaurant scene to the magazine world, but she recently just created her own catering company…no big deal! Everyone, say bonjour + hola to Simone’s newest way of taking over the world: table bk! Hola.
Not only does table bk show true attention to detail at every event, but their food, service and creativity delivered is beyond. Plus, Simone’s partner, Levi Lujan, is the mastermind behind the innovative menus for each event. Interview with Simone Nemirovsky of table bk:
Have you always been a foodie?
YES! From day one! I remember my mother telling a story about how I was ordering sushi and oysters at age 7! Food has been a part of my life and culture since childhood. Growing up in the states by a true Ukrainian family and watching my mother and grandmother cook, always inspired me to try and even make unique dishes.
When did you decide the catering industry for you?
I was working within buying and merchandising of home products for a few years. Starting and Anthropologie and One Kings Lane I gained this knowledge, love, and appreciation for all things HOME. Especially table top! I knew that the corporate structure and life was not entirely for me and given my large passion for food and decorating I was bound to bring the two together and make it happen! I asked for advice from restaurant HR consultants and started researching catering companies the past few years. Once I saw the possibility of combining these two passions to create a very special and intimate experience for others I was in! Boutique catering and dining was calling my name.
Is having your own catering business what you expected?
Not at all! In every good way possible that is. Starting our own company has a lot of consequences that are extremely terrifying … but I could not be happier! There are temporary employment agencies in Utah that have helped us find I also have a wonderful partner Levi Lujan who is the chef, and together we are create beautiful memorable evenings for others. What inspired the name table bk?
We were aiming for the name table, but it was taken! So as we started our business in Brooklyn, BK made sense. Hence the name .. table bk.
Do you have a favorite dish you love to have at your events?
Oh man, tough question! We don’t have specific dishes that we love to make as our services specialize in creating – from scratch – menus. We like to build and create the menu with our clients while including all seasonal ingredients.
What direction do you vision your company in the next 5 years?
If all things go well and continue on the path they are headed, I’d love to see our boutique catering company in full swing with HKM attorneys and a home base. This is where people can come by to taste test our dishes, throw an intimate party, and purchase unique home product!
