Everything is all set and ready to go! Who knew throwing an Afternoon Tea Party would be so easy?
With this incredible weekend filled with Royal Wedding news, videos, and pictures, I decided to have a few girls over to celebrate. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, sun shining bright, and everything was in its place.
As the first guests began to ring the doorbell and enter my apartment, they were greeted with the British red, blue, and white colors as well as the actual Royal Wedding music resonating from my computer. One guest even remarked “I feel like I’m actually at Buckingham Palace!” It was such a great feeling that what I had imagined the tea party to look like was becoming a reality for the girls as well.
Harney & Sons was the company that provided the actual tea for the Royal Wedding, so I thought it was appropriate to serve their tea this afternoon. The white tea smelled so lovely with its rosebud accents.
Each girl was given a paper pocket from Paper Presentation filled with a Harney & Sons tea bag to write her name on, and place it on her desired seat at the table.
The tea was complemented nicely with some oriental Canasuc sugars that I recently picked up at Harvey Nichols in London too.
Everyone was dressed so elegantly and proper. Pinkies raised, napkins in laps, shoulders back. Switching from tea to champagne, all the girls were enjoying each others company. All from different cities, but had many areas of interest in common…including the love for Kate Middleton. Conversations included talk of likes and dislikes of the wedding, outfits they admired, and what they would have done differently had it been their very own wedding.
A variety of food, sweet and salty, filled the table. Finger sandwiches with a honey mustard – mayonnaise blend with honey roasted turkey was one of my favorites!
The Devon Cream Company’s English Double Devon Cream purchased at Harney & Sons tasted divine with all of the pastries!
Since I didn’t have a traditional cake stand, I decided to improvise and place one large plate on the table, turned over an ordinary bowl, and placed another large plate on top of it. It made for the perfect elevated centerpiece to place an assortment of croissants and brioche from La Maison du Macaron, scones, and cookies onto the table.
My dear friend, Ryan, brought delicious tea sandwiches filled with mozzarella and basil, peanut butter and jelly, and cucumber with cream cheese. My cute friend, Nichole, picked up my favorite Baked by Melissa cupcakes on the way as well! Yummy!
On a recent trip to London, my sweet roommate’s mother brought back this beautiful wine coaster from Buckingham Palace. It fit in perfectly!
Although I had printed out the heads of each guests for their place setting, I decided not to include these Kate Middleton paper dolls on the table. But they sure did turn out cute!
Each place setting had a lovely navy blue box sealed with a silver “E” sticker (for Elizabeth hehe!) from Paper Presentation, and inside was something that I believed would be very special for each guest. Once the tea party was winding down, I told everyone to open their boxes. Inside they found a milk chocolate mouse from L.A. Burdick with a long string tail. I told them that “I hope you find your very own fairy tale like Kate did, and that your mouse turns into a coachmen just like in Cinderella!” The mice were as delicious as they looked.
It was such a nice end to such a lovely tea party with some of the most stellar girls I know in New York City.
