It’s around 11:30pm on a Friday night. Downtown. One thing’s for certain: there will be absolutely no cabs available for at least twenty minutes. Everyone is trying to get from to and from The Meatpacking District, the West Village, over to the East Village, and possibly back uptown. Who wants their night to be wasted waiting on transportation?
I have the answer for you, and it’s one word that will change your evening for the better – UBER. This iPhone app was just launched this past week in New York City after being ultra successful in San Francisco.
This past weekend, my friends and I were trying to head from dinner at Kingswood over to The Meatpacking District area to spend the rest of our ‘girls night out’ dancing, and typically there were no cabs available…plus it was starting to rain! Great. We were cold, in high heels, potentially having a ruined bouffant, and now we are in need of a cab. Then I remembered that my brother, Worth, had told me about this cool app called Uber that had just launched in the city, so I downloaded it on my iPhone and keyed in our location.
Within four minutes, we had a super nice black car (not the sketchy kind that try to act as cabs and stalk you on the street when their response is “Twenty dolla!” to your “I’m going ten blocks downtown…” question – I’m fine…). The polished driver got out of the town car, opened the doors for us, and drove us directly to our destination. We felt so cool because when we got to the club, the driver told us that it would be charged to my Uber account (no credit cards and cash needed), and then stepped out of the car (in front of the bouncers might I add…) and opened the doors for us!
We felt like celebrities and pranced right into the place for a fabulous girls evening thanks to the help of Uber!

Like everyone else living in New York, I am ALWAYS on the go. Have you ever been in a time crunch to make a reservation for the upcoming weekend or that evening, and typically can’t find a computer to access? It has happened to me frequently…then I download this iPhone app called OpenTable.
Being a frequent user on their online website, this iPhone app has made my life of being a complete foodie so much easier. You can make the reservation directly from your phone, and are secured a spot at the restaurant depending on the desired time you want to dine.
It may seem like an app that will barely be used, but trust me, once you download OpenTable you will be out and about comparing the seasonal menus of the city!
