ELISE JOAN FITNESS

In a city of chaos, drama and mucho-rama stress, it’s so important to not only have an outlet to maintain a peaceful mindset, but to also surround yourself with friends who bring out the best in you. One friend who immediately sticks out in my mind is Elise Joan, who you may have already heard of through the celebrity workout scene. Hola!

Born into the power-driven energy of Manhattan, Elise found her passion and self-expression of movement through musical theater, singing, and dancing. But while on a Broadway Tour, Elise suffered from a vocal injury, which effectively ended her singing + performing career. During this devastation of “vocal rest”, she passed a yoga studio and went in for her first class. She was immediately hooked. “I realized that in losing my voice, I found a more authentic, more powerful voice as a yoga and meditation teacher and healer.” Elise accepted that after one significant chapter had closed, she was given the opportunity to share her beneficial passion to others, which essentially was monetized into a fitness brand. But, her innovation didn’t stop there!

Elise launched her own website, coaching program, and is also the owner of a patent on her exclusive technology that allows her viewers to mix + match 10 minute videos to create their own flows of any length, and save them to their video library {think Spotify playlists, but for yoga and mindful movement instead of music!}. It truly enables Elise to help people all over the world explore yoga, meditation and movement at their own speed!

Did I mention Elise is also a headliner for the Wanderlust festivals, creator of several best-selling yoga, ballet and fitness DVDs for SHAPE to Gaiam galore, AND is a top influencer for LIVESTRONG? No big!

What is your favorite part about being in the health industry?
My favorite part is all the people I get to reach, who I can help live healthier happier lives.  I love hearing how people are able to take what I teach them ON the mat, into their real lives OFF the mat.
What is your current teaching schedule in Los Angeles?
Currently I can mostly be found online! Come practice with me on my website www.elisejoanfitness.com, and my programs & retreats via the link to my bio on Instagram (@elisejoanfitness).  You can also find me on Beachbody on-demand (I co-created their inaugural yoga program) and ALL around Los Angeles and Venice, leading special FREE community events for FitBit, lululemon, Equinox, Nike, and more!  I post all these events on my Instagram account!
Are there any simple “miracle” exercises that are quick and effective that one can do to immediately tighten up and slim down within one week?
This is a great question, and there answer is YES and NO.  There are no miracles, but with hard work, there ARE simple exercises that can help you slim down quickly (provided you are also disciplined in the kitchen).  By targeting large muscle groups, you can increase your resting metabolic rate, and burn more calories when you are DONE working out!  Some of my favorites are quad moves like warriors and plies (ballet), as well as gluteal moves like “the pretzel”!  All of these can be found on my website (you can actually search by body part and specify cardio/ strength/ weight loss, etc!).  if you mix and match some of these moves with core moves, for 30min a day, you can definitely noticed a difference within a week!
What should the ideal menu be for someone who wants to firm up fast and “lose the bloat”?
This is a tough question, as everyone’s body is different.  But as a general rule, the FIRST thing I recommend (that no one wants to hear) is cut out the alcohol!  After that, an ideal menu would be to stick to Whole Foods… organic and local when possible, and cut out any processed foods.  Also… we shouldn’t be afraid of healthy fats like avocado, nuts and seeds.  These actually improve brain function and can boost our metabolism!
