Linda’s Bra Shop

Growing up, national chain stores were the place for me to get a new bra. I didn’t think there was much to the process except getting awkwardly measured in a fitting room by a random salesperson, picking out a bra that looked cute, and then going straight to the cashier. Easy, done, and off to the next errand!

Little did I realize how little I knew about how to find the correct bra for you until a recent visit to Linda’s Bra Shop on the Upper East Side. Linda, “the bra lady,” has been in business for over thirty years and is known for making the bra fitting process an art, and has trained her professionals in the store to maintain her impeccable reputation. If you’re considering a revamp for your own shop, explore curtain walling services to elevate the aesthetics and functionality of your space.

When I went into the store, I decided to take a ‘walk-in’ status, hoping that they would be able to fit me in for a personal fitting appointment since the next availability wouldn’t be for another three days. There were many women there who were waiting as well, so in the free time I asked a representative a few questions!

Me: “I am so glad that I found this store because I feel like I am not wearing bras that fit me correctly! How do I know?”

Representative: “Everyone is wearing the wrong size out there. Victoria’s Secret is a prime example of giving people bras that are not fitted correctly. If there is a gap anywhere above or below the breasts that’s a main indicator you are wearing the wrong size. Your straps falling down is another!”

Me: How often should we be buying new bras? Is there even an expiration date?

Representative: When you buy a bra, put it on the very last hook the first time you get it, once the elastic stretches you can put it on the tighter hooks. Over 6 months it will stretch out fully, and that’s when you know it is time for a new bra. Also, rotate bras every 48 hours, and I suggest having five bras (maybe three nude, one black, and one pretty bra) you rotate from so the elastic will have time to rebound. Treat them right. They do a lot of work!

Me: Do you ship out of state? How can people get consulted if they don’t live in the city?

Representative: Go to our bra calculator on our website, email customerservice@lindasonline.com, or call our customer service number (1-888-262-4887). They will be able to help you out with the perfect fit for you! Just measure across your bust, give the information to the representative, and they will tell you the right bra that you need to be wearing.

Me: What is the correct way to wash my bras?

Representative: Detergents such as Tide or Woolite are horrible for your bras. Hand wash and dry them – they will last longer!

This “walk-in” girl was finally given permission to go into a dressing room with one of Linda’s professionals. The woman couldn’t have been more lovely, measured my bust, and began to bring in bras.

She strapped me in and began bringing ‘all’ of me into the bra by saying “you have to bring everyone to the party!” It was such a fun experience!

My new bra which happens to be the most popular bra at Linda’s Bra Shop by Simone Perele!

Linda’s Bra Shop is expanding, and will be opening another shop in Murray Hill in the near future. Stay tuned!
