Travel Mannerly

The summer not only brings on the sunshine and positive attitudes. Summer consists of endless weekends out of the city. Whether it’s time to hop on a flight or train to stay with friend on Nantucket or the Hamptons, you always need to travel mannerly. If you’re a frequent flyer, you might also want to check out the jet card programs at Jettly.

Here are my favorite tips on leaving your friends house with them saying, “Wow…she was such an easy house guest. Let’s invite her back next weekend!”

First of all, bringing your host or hostess a thoughtful little gift is very considerate. Who doesn’t like receiving a nice treat?

My top three picks that are easy to travel are:

1. If you want to bring something small, try the Baies candle by diptyque Paris {my favorite scent!}. It’s so chic!

2. If you are on the creative side, pack something cheap and fun for everyone to try. Bringing wooden marshmallow sticks, some chocolate bars, and a bag of marshmallows will not only surprise other guests, but will bring a fun activity along that night…under $20!

3. If you are traveling with a group, all pitch in for one beach towel each from Pottery Barn and get it monogrammed {on sale right now!}. Your host will have an entire set!

Here are a few tips that should be second nature to you, but just in case!…

-Even if you are exhausted after a long dinner at your hosts house, always pick up your plate and bring it to the kitchen. Generously ask if there is anything else to be done that is helpful!

-If you are a late sleeper, you better set that alarm an extra hour early. No host wants their guests to be sleeping until mid afternoon, especially if they have errands or things to be done around the house!

-And of course, don’t forget to write a beautiful thank you note on your finest stationery!

Summer is more fun when it’s spent in different places under the sun. Enjoy the moment. Travel mannerly!
